Professional career of Dr. K. Konieczka:

After my medical studies and specialist training in ophthalmology in Poland, I moved to the University Eye Clinic Basel in 2008, where I trained as a glaucoma specialist under the supervision of Prof. J. Flammer. My scientific and clinical focus is glaucoma, in particular normal tension glaucoma and ocular blood flow https://glaucomaresearch.ch/en/

For many years, I was able to acquire experience in the university environment in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, in particular normal-tension glaucoma. As a member of Prof. J. Flammer’s team, I was able to gain in-depth first-hand knowledge of Flammer syndrome, both in research and in working with patients http://www.flammer-syndrome.ch Flammer syndrome is among other things also a risk factor for glaucoma, particularly normal-tension glaucoma.

In addition to my research work at the University of Basel, I have also been running a glaucoma consultation at the Fankhauser Eye Center in Bern since 2017. I am interested in glaucoma in the global context of the patient’s body and mind. One example is my introduction of the Flammer syndrome into the international scientific literature. I am also the first author of the new Germain edition of the “Glaucoma Book”, which was founded by J. Flammer and has been translated into 24 languages.
